Topographic maps are maps that show both natural and man-made features with a particular region. These maps use contour lines providing detail to these features. There representations are also made possible by utilizing other methods such as relief to distinguish features. Topographic maps are detailed as well as true to the features on the ground. Topographic maps can be represented as either a vector or raster based map. The map above is a map of the area around Moscow, Russia. It is a raster based topographic map and relief is used to distinguish warmer and colder areas as well as elevation which the contour lines also portray.
